2nd. Max Planck Masterclass in International Law

We are happy to announce the second Max Planck Masterclass in international public law, which will take place at the Max Planck Institute in Heidelberg from 11 to 14 February 2013. Together with Prof. Dr. Jürgen Habermas we will discuss questions of law and democracy in the postnational constellation.

Globalization not only changes the conditions for states to exercise authority, it also challenges the basic conceptions of democracy, the rule of law, and law itself. The discourse theory developed by Jürgen Habermas constitutes one very influential tool to analyze those evolutions. During the Masterclass, we are therefore going to focus on the discussion of Jürgen Habermas’ prominent “Between Facts and Norms” while comparing it to more recent contributions by him and other authors.

The number of participants is limited in order to keep the character of a seminar. The Masterclass will take place in German. For clarifications and applications till 10 December 2012, please contact masterclass2013@mpil.de.
