ESIL Travel Grants

As of 2016, the European Society of International Law offers travel grants to encourage and facilitate attendance at its Annual Conferences, Research Forums and other events.

For Annual Conferences, travel grants are awarded under two different schemes: the Early Career Scheme and the Developing/ Emerging Economies Scheme. While travel grants are normally awarded to applicants presenting a paper, limited support may also be available to non-presenting participants.

For Research Fora and other ESIL events, travel grants are awarded to ESIL members who are selected speakers or chairs at the event.

JERUSALEM RESEARCH FORUM TRAVEL GRANTS

Applications for travel grants for the ESIL Research Forum in Jerusalem (28 February - 1 March 2018) will be accepted until Thursday 30 November 2017.

Eligibility

If you are a speaker or chair at the Jerusalem Research Forum, you may apply for an ESIL travel grant.

You cannot apply for a travel grant if you receive financial support from your institution or any other organization to attend this event.

Though ESIL membership is not a pre-requisite to apply, all travel grant recipients will be expected to become ESIL members in order to receive the grant.

Points System

If more applications are received than available grants, applications will be ranked using a points system. The following criteria will be applied:

  • Geographical origin (priority given to scholars based in emerging/developing countries. List available here)
  • Gender balance
  • Contribution to ESIL (priority given to applicants who have demonstrated special engagement with ESIL, such as engagement with Interest Groups or past ESIL membership)
  • Past awards (priority to applicants who have not previously been awarded an ESIL travel grant)

Value of Awards

The travel grant is a contribution towards the cost of travel and accommodation.

Presenters and chairs: € 300
